We are excited to welcome parents to our Fall Open House next Thursday, October 13, from 6:30pm-8:00pm. What a blessing to once again be able to host these in-person events!

As part of Open House, our newly formed PTO will be running its first fundraiser. Please stop by their table to purchase baked goods and coffee, meet some members, and learn more about their mission. Bring small bills and a sweet tooth! If you would like to contribute to the bake sale or join the PTO, send an email to pto@otsegochristian.org.

We will have several community organizations represented that evening as well, offering information and sign-ups for youth activities. Be sure to take a walk through the gym!

If you are affiliated with an organization that might be interested in being represented, please contact Mary Dirig at mdirig@otsegochristian.org.

We look forward to seeing you on the 13th!

Harvest Party and Pie Auction
Our 2022 Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser was a great success! Thank you to everyone to volunteered their their time and resources, and to everyone who sold tickets and attended the dinner.
Special thanks to Mrs. Grabowski for making sauce, to Mrs. Halstead for providing delicious dessert, the PTO for chipping in with setup, and to Mr. Cleveland for his many hours in the kitchen prepping and making meatballs.
We also cannot overlook our students! They are hardworking, polite, and a pleasure to spend time with. We cannot express how impressed we are with the way they came together to make the evening a success.

There are Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes at the main entrance to the school, as well as at Door #3 and Door #5.   Please feel free to take and fill as many as you choose.

Parents may contact Mrs. Monser at smonser@otsegochristian.org to have shoeboxes sent home with their child.

If you don’t care to do the shopping for a box but would like to participate you have two options:

 1.  Let our students shop and fill the box(es) for you. Send in the funds you’d like to donate to Mrs. Monser with a note indicating that the money is to be used to fill a shoebox.

2.  There is a suggested donation of $10/shoebox to cover the cost of shipping.  You may send a donation to cover the cost of shipping of one or more shoeboxes.

Filled shoeboxes and donations need to be brought in to the school on or before November 14th.

Thank you,
10th grade Bible class

SPECIAL LUNCHES NEXT WEEK!

We will be offering spaghetti & meatballs for lunch on Monday. Cost is $3, charged to your lunch account. Teachers will take orders in homeroom.

Pizza Day will be THURSDAY next week, as there is no school on Friday.

Putting together 50 Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes is exhausting!
Please help us get rid of them before the next 50 come!

Our 10th grade Bible class has 50 Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes ready to be picked up and packed for a needy child, and 50 more are on their way.  Please feel free to stop in to the school and pick up one or more boxes.

So what do you do once you’ve picked up your boxes?  Go to:
https://www.samaritanspurse.org/operation-christmas-child/pack-a-shoe-box/

This website has information on what items can be sent in your box, as well as box labels and other information.

If you’d like to track where your box(es) go, you can pay for your shipping($10) online and get a code that will let you follow your shoebox.  If you are not a computer person, we will have labels and instruction sheets you may pick up.  Please return your filled shoeboxes to OCA on or before November 14th, and let us know which classroom is represented when you drop off your boxes.  The class that brings in the most filled shoeboxes will get the opportunity to silly string Mr. Kropp, our PE teacher!

Please consider sending in $10 with your shoebox to cover other costs that Samaritan’s Purse incurs in the process of getting these boxes to their destinations.

Encounter Conference Sign-up Deadline

Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser
We are asking that parents make monthly/regular deposits to their family's lunch account rather than sending in pizza money each week. We will charge your account when pizza is ordered, and notify you when your balance is low. We receive 20-30 baggies of dollar bills and quarters each week, which is a lot of work to sort and deposit - and sometimes results in errors or missed credits to accounts.
Miss Mary and Mrs. VanDewerker thank you!
Picture Day order forms are going home with students today (1 per family). Everything you need to know is on the form, except:
 NO ELEMENTARY PE ON TUESDAY!
Spaghetti Dinner reservation forms are going home with students today. We are not doing physical tickets this year, so please add the names of attendees on the form and select seating and menu options. Forms and money are due back by September 27.

Additional order forms are available in the front office and the elementary hallway.

Seating options: 5pm or 7pm
Take-Out options: 4:30pm pickup or 6:30pm pickup

The Encounter Conference is a yearly regional youth conference for churches and youth ministries. Encounter is a three day conference (Nov 10-12) open to 7th-12th graders. Feedback from OCA students who attended this event last year was overwhelmingly positive, so we plan to take a group again this year.

We estimate the cost for the conference and lodging to be around $150, but this will depend on hotel availability and how many students attend. To help us plan, please let us know by Friday, September 23, if your student(s) plan to attend, by completing THIS ONLINE FORM. We will then provide a firm total cost per student.

Our 10th grade Bible class is organizing an Operation Christmas Child shoebox collection.

If you would like to participate, boxes can be picked up at OCA; however, your own shoebox will work just as well. The filled boxes must be at the school by November 14 to be delivered to the collection site on time.

If you would like to fill your own box, click HERE for more information.

If you would like Operation Christmas Child to fill your box, click HERE.

Our goal is to reach 120 boxes. Thank you for helping us reach this goal!

If you have any questions, you can contact Mrs. Monser at smonser@otsegochristian.org.

We're sure you've noticed that Main Street is under construction. Please give yourself extra travel time, especially at drop-off time, as delays are inevitable for the duration of this project. The Otego community is grateful that these necessary improvements are being made, and we're sure the workers appreciate our patience.

On Friday, April 22, we would love to have all OCA students and families join us for a night of worship, with special guest speaker Pastor Lawrence Neisent. Pastor Lawrence joins us all the way from Oklahoma City, where he is Lead Pastor at Destiny Christian Center, and serves in leadership at Destiny Christian School, a K-12 school of over 500 students. Lawrence also serves as an overseer to various churches and non-profit organizations nationally and internationally, seeking to equip the church to be a relevant voice of prophetic influence in the local, national, and global community. He joined us for Chapel and a special financial workshop in September, and the students really enjoyed his energy and relevant, applicable message. He will be speaking in morning chapel on the 22nd as well, where he will address both Elementary and MSHS. Feel free to invite family members, friends, and church members to join us for this very special evening.

Greetings OCA Families,

We hope you all had a relaxing and wonderful winter break. We are excited to welcome our students back to school.

On Sunday February 27th, NYS Department of Health removed the mask mandate for schools as of Wednesday March 2nd. As such, we are excited to no longer be requiring masks. If you would like your child to continue wearing a mask this will be at the discretion of the parents.

In Christ,

SHARING CHAPEL RETURNS
We glad to announce that we are bringing back monthly chapels now that COVID numbers are on the decline. We have historically brought in pastors and youth leaders and adults from local churches to share with our students. Today Pastor Mike Wyatt and his wife Cristy Scott Wyatt from Fellowship Baptist Lighthouse Church led our chapels. They also happen to be teachers here at OCA and former missionaries to Japan. Cristy teaches 4th grade and Mike teaches Bible and MS English.
PRAYER REQUEST

Mrs. Dirig underwent eye surgery today and is in need of our prayers for her complete recovery.

Mrs. Dirig is crucial to the day to day operations of the school. Please be patient with us while she recovers.

OCA NEWS AND UPDATES

NO SCHOOL MONDAY!

January 17: Martin Luther King Jr. Day - NO SCHOOL
February 7: Krispy Kreme Order Deadline
February 14: Krispy Kreme Doughnut Day!
February 21-25: Winter Break - NO SCHOOL

Schedule Notes:
Elementary Gym: Every Friday; Students wear gym clothes all day
Middle School Gym: Every Tuesday; Students wear gym clothes all day
High School Gym: Every Thursday: Students wear gym clothes all day

Dress Down Day: Every Wednesday; Blue Jeans - Loose fitting (able to pinch a minimum of one inch of fabric) straight leg or boot cut jeans. Shirts: Crew neck - Christian or Patriotic themed or solid color tees with no writing. OCA Games and Color Run Shirts are acceptable.
Krispy Kreme order forms were sent home with students this week.

This is one of our best fundraisers, as the doughnuts pretty much sell themselves! Students should start asking anyone they can think of if they would like to order - they can even sell to out-of-town family and friends who might want to donate their doughnuts to a classroom or to a local fire or police department!

Final orders and payments are due Feb 7.

If you are willing to help on the morning of the 14th when the doughnuts are delivered, we sure would appreciate it!
PAJAMA DAY!
Have you seen our new OCA water bottle by SWZLE? We think your students (or you) will love them! And for just $25 for a bottle of this size and quality, you are getting a great item!

We have a few of these in the office for purchase right now!
A great way to support OCA is by participating in the BoxTops program. Most BoxTops are now digital and can be scanned and credited directly to OCA by using the BoxTops app.
Reminder: You can help our school raise money when you shop on Amazon! It is so simple whether you are using the app or shopping from amazon.com.
